60-Minute Civics: The Constitution as Living Document: Progress or Departure?

January 7, 2026 • 7:00-8:00 pm EST

Should the Constitution evolve with the times, or should it be interpreted strictly as the Framers understood it? This session will examine the Framers’ vision of constitutional change, the modern rise of originalism, and the implications of these perspectives in today’s Supreme Court decisions. We will connect these themes to We the People Units 4 and 5, which explore the evolving interpretation of the Constitution and the ongoing debates over its meaning in contemporary America. Together, we’ll consider how differing approaches to constitutional interpretation shape law, policy, and civic life in the 21st century.
