Identify this section of the display as "Alternative Policies." Your whole group will identify two to three alternative policies that could solve the problem they have chosen to study.
SummaryGraphs, Charts, Summaries of Survey Results
After the whole group selects the alternative policies to be included, have them answer the questions on the panel worksheet, "Examining Alternative Policies," found on page 31 in the student text. The "Alternatives" team will use these worksheets to develop a one-page, double-spaced summary for each alternative policy. The students should respond to all points listed on the worksheet for each of the alternatives chosen. Hint: Print these summaries on card stock for display on the panel.
Graphs, Charts, Summaries of Survey ResultsAdditional Surveys
If the results of your survey show community support for the alternatives chosen by the group, have the students create a graph to report the percentage of support for each alternative. Use the information in the summaries of the alternatives as well. Be sure to include a title or caption for graphs and charts used on the panel.

Your students may have created additional surveys that support a specific alternative. Have the students tally and report the results in a graph.

If the alternative policies have been tried in other communities, that information could be reported in news clippings, Internet articles, or letters. Highlight important information from this documentation.
If documentation supports information mentioned in the summary for a particular alternative, include that on the panel and highlight the supporting statements.

If the students interviewed community members or experts while gathering information for this section, place any photographs that may have been taken during the interviews or fieldwork on this section of the panel. Be sure to include captions.

All sources of information used for this section of the project should be cited. This may be in the form of a formal bibliography or in an informal list of sources. Hint: If the bibliography has been compiled for the binder, print it on half-sheets in order to save space on the panel. Layer these sheets using transparent tape as hinges.
