2011 National Showcase Print E-mail

Think today’s youth is all about shopping and video games? Think again: the 2011 Project Citizen National Showcase displayed what’s really on students’ minds, including motorcycle safety, the health and environmental risks of bottled water, ethanol as a fuel source, and online harassment.

The two-day event was sponsored by the Center for Civic Education with a generous donation from the Southern California Gas Co., as well as other local supporters. Los Angeles-area community leaders, educators, and policy experts evaluated the country’s top student portfolios addressing public policy issues in their schools and communities.

Several students representing Oak Middle School in Jamul, Ca., also joined the showcase to discuss their policy work before a live audience during an evening reception.

The Center announced achievement levels for the national showcase on Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
