Robert is the national director of the We the People Programs. Prior to joining the Center in 1998, he served as the Indiana We the People state coordinator since 1987. Robert taught middle and high school government and math in Michigan and the U.S. Virgin Islands from 1977–83. He also taught part time in jails and prisons in Michigan, the U.S. Virginia Islands, and Indiana from 1978-1998. He holds three degrees from Indiana University where he taught social studies methods undergraduate and graduate courses. He graduated from General H.H. Arnold High School in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1972.


mariagallo-220-april2012 Maria Gallo, Director, Professional Development

Maria Gallo oversees the professional development programs of the Center and manages the presentation of Center programs and curricula at conferences, both nationally and internationally. Gallo also directs the Citizens Not Spectators voting curriculum and the annual American Civic Educator Teacher Awards. Gallo was formerly the national director of the School Violence Prevention Program, managing a network of program sites across the country that provided civic education as a means of preventing school violence. She was responsible for building and standardizing staff development programs for each of the sites and developing ongoing professional development opportunities in civic education for teachers. She also created the Training of Trainers Institute offered each summer. Prior to joining the Center, Gallo was a teacher and administrator in the New York City public school system.


Washington, D.C., Office

030111-Molli-Bio-100-100 Mark Molli, Associate Director

Mark is an associate director for the Center, and managing director of the Washington D.C. office. He has served as Chief of Staff for Representative Augustus F. Hawkins (D-Los Angeles), supervising overall operations for his Capitol Hill office from 1985–90. From 1977–84, he served as Hawkins's Legislative Assistant and Press Secretary, managing education, foreign affairs, environment, labor, and other issues.
