The Center, with a grant from the Motorola Foundation, has produced a new lesson on Abraham Lincoln to commemorate the bicentennial of his birth.     We the People teaches students about our constitutional democracy using critical-thinking exercises, activities, and cooperative learning


    The John Marshall Seminar: The Man and His Judicial Philosophy is a biannual professional development program in Richmond, Virginia, cosponsored by The John Marshall Foundation and the Center for Civic Education.

    Get Involved

    The National Network

    The Center for Civic Education administers the We the People program nationally through a network of coordinators in 50 states, 435 congressional districts, 4 trust territories, and the District of Columbia. These coordinators work with their members of Congress, business and community leaders, and local educators to contribute to the success of the program. 

    • Teachers and civic educators

      • Contact the coordinator for your state (see directory) or the Center for Civic Education to involve your students in the We the People program

      • Work with your congressional district coordinator to include community leaders and members of Congress as judges, speakers, and presenters at the simulated hearings

    • Members of Congress

      • Sign and present award certificates, speak at simulated hearings, serve as judges, and welcome students from your state to the national finals in Washington, D.C.

      • Discuss constitutional issues with students in their classrooms and speak at teacher training workshops

      • Support the efforts of your district and state coordinators in all aspects of program implementation

    • Community, business, and professional associations

      • Volunteer time and expertise by serving on advisory committees, providing leadership support, and serving as competition judges

      • Provide financial support to help purchase program materials, underwrite local and statewide competitions, and send winning classes to state and national finals
