The Native American Initiative is part of the School Violence Prevention Demonstration Program.
The Native American Initiative is an outreach effort developed from the School Violence Prevention Demonstration Program. To date, nineteen Native American tribes have participated in the program:

During the school year, training sessions are provided for the teachers at the individual sites to support the teaching of the curricular materials.
Expansion efforts include:
recruitment of additional Native American sites
opportunities for Native American teachers and administrators to review and revise the Center's curricular materials to enhance culturally appropriate strategies and content
outreach to Native American and other teachers to enlist their participation in professional development institutes and trainings
The Native American Initiative will foster a relationship with the National Indian Education Association to promote civic education for democracy.
