Jan 27, 2012 / 2012 National Finals, Volume 4, Issue 1

Joplin High School Wins Missouri We the People Title
Will Keczkemethy’s class from Joplin High School won the Missouri state We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition in Jefferson City on January 23.
Six classes competed in the state finals.
State We the People Programs coordinator Millie Aulbur said that the Joplin High School students “are proof that using the outstanding We the People book and the Internet for further research can produce a winning team. I watched them testify twice and I was completely blown away.”
Keczkemethy lost his library of research materials when Joplin High School was severely damaged during the tornado that struck the city on May 22, 2011.
The tornado caused massive property damage and the loss of seven Joplin students, including Will Norton, who competed with the Joplin High School team in the 2011 We the People National Finals in Washington, D.C.
Aulbur said, “I am so proud of the Joplin community.”
“They [Joplin High School] and the faculty have a can do attitude. And boy did they do it on Monday!”
With their first-place finish, Joplin High School qualified to compete against other states in the 25th Anniversary We the People National finals, held in Washington, D.C., and at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, April 28-May 1.
