In Memoriam: Pimon Ruetrakul

Dr. Pimon Ruetrakul, the Center’s valued colleague and Civitas International Programs coordinator in Thailand, passed away on December 22, 2012, while conducting a Project Citizen workshop in Burma.

Throughout her career, Pimon was dedicated to enhancing the education of teachers and students.

After receiving her doctorate in early childhood and higher education from the University of Pittsburg, she worked on Sesame Street, where she received an Emmy Award, and taught as a professor at Albright College in Pennsylvania and at the University of South Carolina. Then she returned to Thailand to serve as headmaster of international schools in Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Later, she was executive director of the Fullbright Foundation in Bangkok, director of the Kenan Institute Asia, and finally an Academic Expert in Foreign Affairs at King Prajadhipok’s Institute Thailand. There she worked with the Center to establish successful Civitas programs in Thailand and Burma.
