The We the People Ebooks Initiative, sponsored by the Center for Civic
Education, provides award-winning civic education materials free to California
educators and administrators. These curricular materials for upper elementary,
middle, and high school students, developed over more than two decades, provide
students with an understanding of the institutions of constitutional democracy
and the fundamental principles and values upon which they are founded. These
materials will also help students to develop
the skills necessary to participate as effective and responsible citizens and
instill a willingness to use democratic procedures in making decisions and
managing conflict.
These fifteen, no-cost digital texts represent the core curricula of the Center’s We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution and Project Citizen programs.
Both the student texts and the teacher’s editions are available for free download until May 30, 2012. The National Standards for Civics and Government and Education for Democracy: California Civic Education Scope & Sequence are also available for free download.
