    This summer, the Center will be releasing a new addition to the We the People family: the first edition of We the People: The Citizen & Democracy. This new textbook for grades 3-5  explains the fundamental principles and values of the American democratic republic contained in the Declaration of Independence and Preamble to the Constitution of the United States. It is lavishly illustrated with cartoons that help explain the fundamental principles of representative democracy.

    We the People National FinalsNew Edition of We the People Level 1 Textbook to Be ReleasedA new fourth edition of We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution, Level 1 for upper elementary students, will be released in summer 2019. This completely updated edition contains new content and images. When the text is released in August, a detailed list of updates will be provided to make it easier for teachers to integrate the new textbook.

    Long-serving Center for Civic Education associate director Dr. Margaret Branson passed away on Wednesday, May 15. Branson made remarkable contributions to civic education in the United States and throughout the world. She was the author of numerous textbooks and professional articles. She was a principal researcher and author of We the People: The Citizen & the Constitution, the National Standards for Civics and Government, and many other works.
